HOW HAS SPORTS SCIENCE AND MEDICINE HELPED ATHLETES IN THEIR GAMES? (GUEST POST)

 By Sharon Freeman.

Sporting Injuries can lead to serious bone and muscle damage that in turn may lead to possibly career ending injuries. Certain sports injuries and treatments are more prevalent among certain types of athletes. Tennis players have “tennis elbow”, baseball pitchers have “tommy john” surgery, football players suffer the gamut, but the most often seen injuries are to the knees and heads.

As recently as a couple of years ago, concussions in any sport ended an athlete’s career, but the injury has received considerable research grants and the results have helped doctors better diagnose the injury and work on a plan of recovery.

Elbow injuries once took pitchers off the mound for good and tennis players had to hang up their rackets. As sports science improves athletes’ mechanics and sports medicine develops better surgeries players can return faster than before and still fighting strong.

What are the most common sports injuries?

Tennis Elbow occurs when the outside of the elbow becomes painful and the joint becomes tender. The doctor will test the patient by asking the patient to grip either his hand or an object. He will note the mechanics of the patients arm as they do this and notice if there is painful reaction. He may have x-rays done to look for deep injury. Usually Medication and PT will help but if they don’t surgery is an option.

How does Tommy John surgery help pitchers? The procedure involved the grafting of a tendon that is harvested from either the same arm or the opposite arm to repair the torn or severely damaged medial tendon on the pitchers arm. The procedure has a very long recovery time, but it does appear to work for most pitchers, thus allowing them to continue their careers.

Head injuries are common injuries in football. The helmets help protect the heads for the most part, but head to head ( helmet to helmet) impacts are still very dangerous. The NFL has recently added to their requirements when a player suffers a concussion that they must have a certain recovery time and receive a full medical release before returning to the game.

Knee injuries involve the ACL and MCL tendons that move and protect the knee affect many athletes in any sport. When those tendons are torn, the recovery processes is long and arduous. Treatment includes medication and PT. If neither works for the patient, then surgery is required. The recovery is often painful and often results in the player never returning to the field of play.

Basketball players run constantly in their game, so their hips, knees and ankles tend to suffer a lot of injuries. They also suffer from injuries similar to tennis elbow due to the repetition of dribbling the ball and shooting baskets. They also tend to suffer from fractures to the face in the heat of the game. One of the most common treatments for facial injuries involved a plastic “cast” worn by the athlete while playing to prevent re-injury.

Sports are exciting to watch and even more exciting to play. The athletes play with full awareness that a severe injury is just one play away. Sports science has helped athletes improve the way they use their bodies, which helps prevent many injuries. Sports medicine has improved with new techniques that have improved the lives of athlete and allowed them to play longer more satisfying careers.  Athletes are now able to recover from even the most drastic injuries with incredibly short recovery times.

Fans can enjoy the success of their favorite players as they watch them perform their skills all thanks to athletes’ grace, scientists’ knowledge and doctors’ skills.

Common Safety Hazards and How to Avoid Them (Guest Post)

Written by Jeanie Barcus

Work environments and public environments are often filled with a wide variety of dangerous hazards. In many cases, these hazards can cause an individual serious bodily harm. However, it’s often possible to avoid these hazards by following the right safety steps. The following guide provides simple tips and tricks on how to avoid public safety hazards.

When working at a job, it’s important to make sure your employees and peers are all aware of the Occupational Safety and Hazard Administration (OSHA) guidelines. OSHA is designed to protect workers from dangerous conditions that are a serious safety hazard.

It’s always important to be aware of your surroundings. If an individual is working around heavy machinery, it’s important to make sure that one pays attention to the location of moving equipment at all times. All it takes is a brief lapse of attention for a serious accident to take place.

In addition, it’s important to make sure that you have access to the proper safety equipment when working in dangerous environments. Employers are required to provide the right safety equipment to employees. This can include chemical-proof clothing, boots, safety helmets, gas masks and a variety of other accessories.

For example, working in some environments can expose an individual to a variety of dangerous toxins. If an individual works in an industrial setting, he or she may be exposed to trace levels of dangerous toxins like mercury, lead, asbestos and uranium. In these situations, it’s important to make sure that one has the proper safety equipment to ensure a safe working environment.

In addition, it’s essential to make sure that an employee coordinates with his or her peers. Without coordination, it can be difficult to respond to a problem in the correct way. In some cases, responding to a dangerous system in the wrong way can expose other people to a potential hazard. To avoid these types of problems, it’s important to remain in communication with one’s peers at all times.

Since it can be difficult to avoid all safety hazards in a work environment or other public area, it’s important to be prepared for the consequences of an accident. In some cases, an accident can cause a loss of income for an individual and his or her family. If this happens, it’s important to get legal assistance as soon as possible. By hiring a professional accident attorney, it may be possible for an individual to recoup some of the losses that resulted from an accident.

HOW TO AVERT WELDING ACCIDENTS (GUEST POST)

Sent to us from Alan Murfee, of the United Kingdom.

Welding, a high-risk occupation is a skilled occupation that requires proper care and attention. Due to absence of proper preventive measures, the likelihood of welding accidents and illnesses is on an all-time rise. It is hence, extremely important to pay proper attention to your safety. Make sure you do not neglect safety norms and follow the right practices.

Read along to know how to maintain a safe and productive environment, thereby reducing chances of welding accidents and illnesses.

Enhance your knowledge

Most welders skip their welding safety education, and remain ignorant about various welding safety measures. Before you take to the welding profession, enroll in a good trade school that offers welding specialization programs. This shall not only promote safety, but also help catapult your career. If you’re hiring welders, make sure you hire them only after they’ve attended welding safety classes and have proper knowledge about welding safety.

Welding equipment

In case of such a high-risk profession such as welding, possessing the right tools is not only important for professional competence, but also for your own comfort and safety. You must ascertain that your tools have been inspected for defects and are in good condition. Faulty tools shall not only be inconvenient for you, but can also be dangerous. Having some knowledge about repairing and administering these equipment for leaks and defects can always help you to a great extent.

Welding safety accessories

Construction safety gear is a prerequisite to avert most industrial accidents. You must ensure that you wear your safety accessories before welding. Essential safety equipment like welding helmets, gloves and boots can prevent major accidents. There is always a risk of getting injuries due to weld splatters. Welding also involves dealing with intense heat and high radiations, so make sure you wear your safety goggles. Wearing protective helmets can also help reduce possibilities of accidents caused by hazardous smoke, fire flash, unexpected explosion, etc. Your gloves will also protect you from getting burn injuries.

Appropriate Clothing

Welding processes generate intense heat and hot sparkles. It is hence, imperative for you to dress suitably. It is advisable to wear solid, weighty fabrics such as heavy fibers or denim that are not easily inflammable. Make sure you wear clothes that cover your entire body and leave no part exposed.

Avoid wearing open-toed shoes or canvas boots. Wearing safety boots with steel toe-caps are greatly recommended. Wearing appropriate clothing and being well-equipped with essential construction safety products can go a long way in protecting you, and preventing welding accidents.

Taking Preventive measures

An ounce of prevention is definitely worth a pound of cure. It is hence, imperative for you to take the required preventive measures before welding. In a trade dealing with molten metal, circumspection and vigilance is required at every step.

The welding process must always be carried out in well-ventilated areas that are specially designated for welding. Keeping the area clean is important, and make sure no flammable objects lie in close proximity with this area. It always helps to keep a first-aid kit close to you when welding.

Meticulous planning, proper knowledge and the right equipment can reduce likelihood of these welding accidents to a great extent. In case however, there are accidents caused by negligence, make a claim for compensation for the welding accident.

We appreciate the information from Alan Murfee.  Please also check out the cool welding hoods sold by our parent company, Texas America Safety Company (tasco-safety.com).  Welding is a very serious business, so please be trained and be careful! pb

THE POWER OF PINK!

Because October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, you will probably see a lot more people wearing pink, especially athletes!  You can’t miss the NFL players wearing pink wrist bands, shoes, and other pink attire, promoting the cause.  For the past twenty-eight years, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month has encouraged awareness and education regarding breast cancer, which is the most common cancer in women, with the exception of skin cancers.  Men have breast tissue, and can get breast cancer, even though it is not as common as in women.

National public service associations such as the American Cancer Society, medical associations, and government agencies have all joined together in promoting breast cancer issues.  Breast Cancer Awareness Month is also observed internationally during October, with many charities raising funds for research.  According to the National Cancer Institute, age is the single most important risk factor.  Other things to consider are:

  •        Family history;
  •        Body weight;
  •        Lack of physical activity;
  •        Alcohol consumption;
  •        Smoking;
  •        Consuming unhealthy foods;
  •        Alteration of certain genes.

Women over 40 are urged to get an annual mammogram, and follow up each year.  Physicians or mammography centers can show women how to do self-exams, as well.  Surprisingly, one-half of breast cancer cases show up in women over age 65; therefore, they should continue getting mammograms through their 70’s.

In promoting the pink theme, Texas America Safety Company has several pink types of safety wear made especially for working women:  hardhats, safety glasses, work gloves, and earmuffs for hearing protection.  Why not check these out and start supporting awareness of breast cancer and other cancers, as well as sporting your feminine side?  Spread the word at work or play, just as those big strong football players are doing!

You will see all types of benefits and activities in October, bringing attention to this very important issue that affects thousands.  If you see a man wearing pink, tell him “thanks”.  Chances are he has a mom, grandmother, wife, or daughter that he hopes won’t have to face breast cancer, or that he knows someone who is fighting the battle.  There are over 2.5 million breast cancer survivors in our country, thanks to the hard work that cancer research and medical technology have provided.  Survivors of breast cancer or any other type of cancer are to be commended for the battles they have waged.

Do your part by wearing pink this month!

HEAD INJURY: MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE (GUEST POST)

By Michael Pines

There’s no doubt that occupations such as construction, manufacturing, utilities, and transportation can increase the risk of head injury in the workplace. But no matter what kind of job you hold, you can strive for safety in the workplace with the right kind of equipment and proper training.

Here’s what you need to know about head injuries and how to stay safe. While it’s up to the employer to provide a safe working environment – from protective gear to safety policies and procedures – you can take extra steps today to help reduce your risk for personal injury.

Head injuries are difficult to diagnose

One of the problems with diagnosing head injury is that imaging tests don’t provide the total picture. Medical diagnosing can be difficult, which can cause more stress on the injured individual. And because brain injuries can be unique person-to-person, taking the time to identify an injury can also cause delays in treatment. An MRI and CT scan might appear completely normal, while the individual suffers from pain, confusion, dizziness, and even memory loss. That’s why doctors often rely on a combination of factors to diagnose a traumatic brain injury (TBI).

But even then, it isn’t so simple. Those who experience severe brain injury pain can go years without a medical diagnosis.

But, the medical community is working towards finding a solution. Recent studies point to brain fibers, also called axons, which link nerves in the brain together that, when severed, can cause a TBI. When these nerves are jolted, or stressed in any way, the brain can suffer damage including symptoms ranging from headaches to swelling and permanent disabilities.

When brain fibers are damaged, “the neurons are not structurally altered but electrophysiologically they’re dysfunctional,” said John T. Povlishock, lead researcher at the Virginia Commonwealth University where the study is undergoing. “Does a repeat injury in a specific time frame … lead to an exacerbation of this or dramatic exacerbation? We don’t know. That’s the next step.”

It’s never been more important to protect your head in the workplace, especially if you work in an occupation with an increased risk for injury. While the medical community works toward better treatment, you can stay safe at work by considering the following tips. Don’t let traumatic brain injury happen to you – the quality of your life depends on it!

Workplace injury: take action

As personal injury attorneys in San Diego, we work with injured people every day. And it goes without saying that severe injury is devastating for the individuals and families who are affected. Brain injuries are some of the most unyielding injuries that can often last a lifetime. We’ve worked with people who lead perfectly normal lives until — in a split second moment — an accident changes their outlook forever. And even more disheartening is the fact that many of these brain injuries could have been avoided with the right safety equipment. That’s why we urge workers in construction, utility, transportation, manufacturing or any other laborious job to strongly equip themselves with the best safety gear possible, especially with regard to proper head gear. Consider the following tips to help reduce accidents in your workplace. And remember: always wear a helmet or other protective head equipment at work.

Speak up at work

If your workplace is unsafe, or has poor policies and procedures in place, do not hesitate to talk to your supervisor about the issue. You can prevent serious injury today by identifying unsafe working conditions. If your employer refuses to hear your concerns, you may take your complaints to OSHA – the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

Replace old equipment

If you are already using proper head gear, we applaud you for your safety efforts. Take your concern for safety a step further by replacing old, worn, or recalled equipment. Generally speaking, most individuals who work in laborious environments can expect to replace equipment on a yearly basis.

Get the safety training you need

While most employers do a good job of training employees in safety and precaution, there are some workplaces that do not sufficiently provide safety training. Consider being your workplace spokesperson for safety: ask you supervisor about ongoing safety courses, especially if any new products or procedures have been implemented.

Helmets: you need them!

There’s no doubt about it: you need to protect your head if your occupation poses injury risk. Get the equipment you need, and never consider going to work without your safety gear. Your life depends on it.

Construction Safety and Compliance: Resources for Employeees and Employers (Guest Post)

Submitted by Eliathah Boda of OSHAPros USA.

The construction industry is one of the most dangerous industries in the United States. The rate of fatalities among construction workers is three times higher than that for all workers in the U.S. – in 2009 it was 9.7 percent per 100,000 compared with 3.3 for all workers. For this reason, 60% of OSHA’s inspections are of construction sites.

The four most dangerous hazards in construction work are:

  • Fall Hazards
  • Caught-In or Caught-Between Hazards
  • Struck-By Hazards
  • Electrocution Hazards

Besides inspections and enforcement of standards for the construction industry, particularly OSHA 29 CFR 1926, OSHA provides educational materials as well as training through authorized outreach trainers. On the OSHA website a number of helpful materials and resources are available that cover the most important construction safety topics.

The Outreach Training Program addresses basic elements of safety in the workplace. The program was developed by OSHA, who then teaches trainers, who are then authorized to provide the training to workers in person or as videos offered online. The courses given through this program include two 10-hour courses for all workers, one on General Industry Safety and one on Construction Safety; two 30-hour courses offered that are geared mostly for supervisors and foremen, one that covers General Industry and one for Construction. You can see more information on the Outreach Training Program on the OSHA Website. Information on the Outreach Training Program is available on the OSHA website

Besides the courses offered through the Outreach Training Program, one of the most useful resources available for information on constructionsafety topics is the OSHA Construction eTool, an online training tool that is especially useful for workers in learning more about construction safety. The Construction eTool covers the most serious hazards in construction work, including electrical, falls, struck-by, and trenching, with thorough but easy to understand explanations of the hazards, applicable OSHA standards, and safety tips to avoid injuries from these hazards. It also explains how the standards apply to different workers. Additionally, there is information for employers on how to develop a safety and health program to help meet OSHA standards and prevent injuries.

Another useful resource available on the OSHA website is a series of construction hazard prevention videos. These are available in both English and Spanish with closed captioning. These resources will provide you with a great deal of useful information and are an excellent supplement to the authorized OSHA training courses that are also available.

OSHA Pros USA provides onsite OSHA training, online safety training courses, mock OSHA inspections, air & noise surveys, and litigation support across America.

In addition, OSHA has a separate standard for every type of wide variety of safety products required for each particular job, according to the hazards.  You can find those standards on the OSHA website. pb

WHY SCAFFOLDING TRAINING IS ESSENTIAL FOR ALL CONSTRUCTION BUSINESSES (GUEST POST)

Submitted by Matthew Wood.  An experienced and talented copywriter, he writes SEO savvy content for a collection of online publications and web projects.  Matthew’s latest work involves writing creative and engaging content on the subjects of Form work and Kwikstage Scaffolding for the established online brand Unit Plant Services.

It may not be something that is at the top of your agenda but the value of scaffolding training really is priceless.

Owners of construction companies should ensure that all of their operatives who are involved with either the deployment or inspection of scaffolding should undergo the relative training needed to proficiently use the equipment.  Negligence in the operation of mounting and utilising scaffolding can result in devastating consequences such as damage to third party property, fines, cost of accident fees, injury to personnel and even death.

As such, I’m sure you’d agree that scaffolding training is absolutely vital for workers who are required to use the structures. This article will therefore highlight the applicable training courses for scaffolding and the benefits of such learning.

National Record Card Scheme & NVQ – Basic

This course is for the beginners who have no prior scaffolding training – although they must have at least six months experience as a scaffolder labourer. There are two parts to this course – which lasts around 20 days – and, upon completion, workers will be able to erect and dismantle scaffolding when working as part of a team. Part two of the course will include written and practical exams with an emphasis on working with different types of scaffolding.

Portfolio Build Level 2 Basic

If candidates have completed the aforementioned training then they are eligible to undertake a Portfolio course which teaches workers how to create and portray a collection of projects. This could be an excellent course for those looking to bolster their credentials when looking for employment in the construction industry.

NVQ Level 2 Assessment

This course – which requires the two basic parts of the National Record Card Scheme & NVQ to qualify for entry – has an emphasis on practical assessments which covers the theory that was undertaken during the basic training.

CISRS Advanced

To enter this course, candidates must hold a Basic Scaffolders Card. The training will involve the scaling and interpretation of construction drawings with workers learning how to erect and dismantle scaffolding a safe and correct manner. Upon completion, candidates will receive an Advanced Scaffolders certificate to represent their progress.

Portfolio Build Level 3 Advanced

This is a similar course to the previous portfolio guidance but will incorporate the subsequent training that works up to the Level 3 of scaffolding qualifications.

NVQ Level 3 Assessment

Workers will undertake a number of practical tests in this course and cover the content that has been learnt during the advanced and Level 3 stage of scaffolding qualifications. Each of the candidates’ portfolios will also be examined in order to determine their level of understanding. At the end of the course, workers will be awarded documentation to show their competence against the required standards of scaffolding in construction – enabling them to apply for their CITB Advanced Record Card.

In the U.S., OSHA revised its scaffolds standard in 1996.  BLS studies showed that 25% of workers injured in scaffold accidents had received no scaffold safety training, and 77% of scaffolds were not equipped with guardrails.  OSHA estimates that informed employers and workers, in compliance with correct safety standards, can save as many as 50 lives and prevent 4,500 accidents every year.  In a recent Bureau of Labor study, 72% of workers injured in scaffold accidents attributed the accident either to the planking or support giving way, or to the employee slipping or being struck by a falling object.  The OSHA standard sets performance-based criteria to protect employees from scaffold-related hazards such as falls, falling objects, structural instability, electrocution, or overloading.  It also addresses training and various types of scaffolds, as well as falling object protection, ladders, weather conditions, aerial lifts, stilts, and other matters that are not covered in OSHA’s previous scaffolding standards.  Also, it allows employers more flexibility when using protective systems for working on scaffolds.  pb

THE SHOCKING TRUTH ABOUT ELECTRICAL SAFETY IN THE WORKPLACE (GUEST POST)

This article was written by PAT, providing information about PAT testing for the UK.

With many health and safety laws now in place, it is essential that employees are safe and protected while it is also important that you protect yourself as a business owner. When you are working with electricals it’s extremely important that you are aware of safety in the workplace. All business owners should be aware of steps that can be taken to ensure electrical safety and all employees should follow these steps to keep themselves safe.

When you are a business owner it’s important that you are responsible for ensuring that everyone works safely at all times. As electrical appliances and machinery can be potentially dangerous you need to ensure that your equipment is safe so that accidents don’t happen. If you are fully prepared for when it comes to electrical safety, it is unlikely that these accidents will occur. Before assigning staff to equipment you must make sure your employees are fully trained in using the equipment as you could be facing a legal battle if they use the machinery incorrectly.

As an employer, you should make sure that all of your electrical equipment is tested regularly to ensure that it is safe for use. PAT testing will find out if there are any damages or defects that could make your equipment unsafe when used. For this you can either hire a PAT tester or complete an inspection yourself if you are fully qualified.

Employees also need to be trained properly in order to avoid accidents and other steps need to be taken to ensure that everyone in the workplace is safe.

Here are a few places where electrical safety should be monitored:

Factories

Depending on the type of factory, both employers and employees need to check all the electrical appliances being used to make sure they are safe and comply with electrical safety guidelines.  Unsafe factory equipment can cause huge problems if it is not monitored effectively as it is crucial when protecting employees.

Computers

As computers are used via the main electrical ports, you need to check that your computers are checked for safety as they can pose a threat if they are not maintained properly.  Computers should also be PAT tested to ensure that they are safe to use.

Till Points

As a till is used in the same way as a computer, it is important that you take the same precautions. In the same way that computers are tested, a till should be tested to ensure that there are no damages or defects that could pose a hazard when they are used.

Kitchen Equipment

Whether you are an employee or an employer, you need to make sure the kitchen equipment the staff use is in good working order and works effectively. Microwaves, ovens and other appliances should be regularly inspected to ensure against damage or defects. Accidents are fairly common in commercial kitchens; therefore ensuring your electrical appliances are in good working order will help to reduce the amount of accidents in the workplace.

Keeping your workplace safe doesn’t take long and will help your staff to feel safe and protected. If you are a business owner, it is your legal responsibility to provide your employees with a safe working environment; therefore you should do everything in your power to make this happen.

Visit http://www.pat.org.uk/ for more information.

Employers should provide their employees with the proper dielectric PPE to ensure their safety. pb

REMEMBERING SEPTEMBER 11, 2001

September 11, 2001, was a day of infamy in the minds of Americans, the same as December 7, 1941, when Pearl Harbor was attacked by Japan.  For those who lost their lives, innocently going to do a day’s work, little children in day care, and for their families, this country still grieves.  We also grieve for the police, firefighters, emergency medical services, and all those who answered the call of duty.  It will be forever in our minds, that picture of those brave souls as they walked toward those huge towers, knowing they probably wouldn’t return.

It is sad to feel that there was so much hatred for our country that this horrible deed happened, along with attacking our Pentagon, and trying to direct Flight 93 to the White House.  Most countries at one time or another have been victims of attack.  Americans are brave citizens who love their country and aren’t afraid to serve.  We owe those brave military personnel all over the world protecting us our utmost thanks.

After the clean up of the World Trade Center, John Henshaw, Assistant Secretary of Labor for OSHA, U S Department of Labor stated: “On May 30, 2002, when the recovery was completed, not another life had been lost, and illness and injury rates were far below national average for industries involved in the recovery.”  This was a very dangerous time for all who gave their time and talents to the clean-up.

Along with hundreds of suppliers and businesses in America, Texas America Safety Company immediately sent hard hats head protection and disposable respirators to protect the dedicated workers.  OSHA distributed more than 131,000 respirators, 11,000 hard hats, 13,000 safety glasses and goggles, 21,000 pairs of protective gloves, and identified more than 9,000 hazards.

Texas America Safety Company, along with all Americans, salutes the workers for the difficult tasks performed during the 10 months of the recovery mission.  Let us never forget that terrible day, and may each and every one of us pledge to keep America strong!

DIFFERENT TYPES OF HELMETS FOR MOTORCYCLE RIDERS (GUEST POST)

Helmets are very necessary whenever you are riding a two wheeler. In most of the states, they are even mandatory. This is because helmets serve the basic purpose of protecting your head while riding or in case of a crash. Moreover, they also keep you comfortable when you are riding a bike. Most of the people think that helmets are only for your protection. But, it is very important to keep comfort in mind because you will be spending most of the time in riding the bike rather than crashing it somewhere.

In most countries, motorbike helmets are divided into four different categories. Helmets also have to be certified through various tests. These may be associated with DOT or SNELL or other departments. You should make sure that you always buy genuine helmets so that you are completely protected and comfortable while riding a bike. In this article, we will discuss different types of helmets which are used in places all around the world. These helmets are the most commonly used motorcycle helmets.

Different Types of Motorcycle Helmets

1) Full face helmets – These type of helmets are recommended by most of the experts. They are completely safe and comfortable. Full face helmets cover your whole head and face so that you are comfortable while riding and protected even if you crash. Most of these helmets have a flip up visor which can even be easily removed. Visors come in tints as well as with total clarity. These helmets also come in different styles, which you can choose from according to your needs and preferences.

2) Modular or Flip face helmets – These helmets lie somewhere between the comfort of a 3 / 4 helmets and the protection of full face helmets. The visor is attached to the lower part of the helmet which can be flipped up. Most of the people find these helmets neither comfortable nor completely safe. But, modular helmets look quite different and stylish. This is the reason why most people buy them. Moreover, modular helmets are considered to be safer than 3 / 4 helmets. You should always go for these helmets if you think that full face helmets are not for you.

3) 3 / 4 helmets – These helmets were extremely popular a couple of decades back. Full face and modular helmets are usually heavy and bulky. Therefore, people use 3 / 4 helmets because they are very comfortable. 3 / 4 helmets come in various different colors and give a trendy look. But when you think about safety and protection, 3 / 4 helmets are not a wise choice. They expose your chin and lower face leaving them unprotected.

4) Half helmets – These helmets are also known as brain buckets or puddle cups. These helmets are not very safe if you crash. They almost expose your whole face while you are crashing or even riding. Your face is even exposed to dirt when you are riding a bike. Half motorbike helmets are usually used by only cruise riders. However, these helmets should be avoided if you have other options.
